Where I am from
I am from skinned knees
and blistered hands earned at recess.
I am from red "monkey blood",
stinging my wounds as it protected.
I am from sit-down family dinners
and holidays, with Mom and Dad, cousins and friends.
I am from hand me down clothes, crew-cut hair
and Midnight Mass.
I am from Lego building blocks
and "Fisher Price" Adventure People.
From Vinyl records, and singles on 45's.
I am from peer pressure
and the fear of a "new" disease called A.I.D.S.
I am from snowball fights in the winter,
from pine cone fights in the fall,
from water fights in the summer.
I am from Cheese Sandwiches
and (real) Vanilla Coke.
I am from Little League Baseball and Boy Scouts,
camping and constantly on the move.
I am from the Summers spent at Grandma's
and Dad's company picnics.
This is where I am from.
Based on a poem by George Ella Lyon
I saw this on Jeff's site, who saw it somewhere else.
